A tense situation has developed in Meghalaya after authorities imposed a night curfew across 37 villages in the West Garo Hills following unrest linked to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections.
According to reports, clashes and rising tensions during the curfew led to violence and police firing, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The incident has heightened concerns about security and stability in the region during the election period.
Local authorities said the curfew was imposed to restore order and prevent further escalation, while security forces have been deployed in sensitive areas. Officials are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents to maintain calm and cooperate with law enforcement.
