With a temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius in Safdarjung on Monday, 5.1 degrees above average, Delhi had its highest temperature of the season. The increase coincides with the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) earlier this week’s heatwave warning for the nation’s capital and portions of northwest and central India.
At 39.5 degrees Celsius, the temperature at Palam was four degrees warmer than the seasonal normal. Delhi is under a yellow alert on Monday and Tuesday. Parts of the city are expected to experience heatwave conditions from Monday through Wednesday, according to the Met Department. It is anticipated that the highest temperatures would be between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius.
The city’s primary meteorological station, Safdarjung, reported a high of 38.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday, which is three degrees warmer than usual. The highest temperature on Saturday was 35.7 degrees. On April 3, the hottest temperature Safdarjung had seen this season was 39 degrees.
In the meantime, Delhi’s air quality is still classified as “poor.”
There is also a chance of heatwave conditions in several areas of central and northern India. On April 7, isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh can be impacted. Similar circumstances are anticipated in Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab between April 7 and April 10. A heatwave may hit Madhya Pradesh from April 8 to 10 and Western Uttar Pradesh from April 7 to 9.
