In Guwahati, Assam, a frantic search persists for eight-year-old Abhinash Sarkar, who fell into a drain three days ago. The incident occurred when Abhinash slipped from his father’s scooter amidst heavy rainfall on Thursday evening. Despite his father, Hiralal Sarkar’s, desperate attempt to save him, both were swept away by the strong current.
Since then, authorities including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been tirelessly conducting search operations. The efforts involve using sniffer dogs, excavators, and specialized equipment to scour the storm drain in the Jyotinagar area where the incident took place.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the site on Saturday to console the grieving parents, Hiralal and his wife. Despite the Chief Minister’s urging to return home for the sake of their younger child, Hiralal has adamantly refused to leave the search site, clinging to hope amidst unimaginable grief.
Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Sarma expressed his empathy for the family’s plight and assured continued efforts in the search operation. He acknowledged the harsh reality they may face but emphasized the importance of preparing them for any outcome.
The search teams have extended their efforts downstream from the incident site, removing concrete slabs and intensifying their search with advanced tools. However, given the circumstances and the passage of time, hopes of finding Abhinash alive diminish with each passing day.
Chief Minister Sarma plans to visit Abhinash’s residence again on Monday to offer further support to the grieving family. While nothing can compensate for their loss, he assured that efforts would be made to ensure the well-being of their younger child.
Addressing concerns over government responsibility, Chief Minister Sarma dismissed allegations of negligence, attributing such incidents to the challenges inherent in a bustling city like Guwahati. He assured that the administration remains committed to addressing any identified issues promptly.
As the search continues, the community in Guwahati remains hopeful for a positive outcome, rallying behind the family in their time of profound sorrow. The efforts of the rescue teams, coupled with the support of the authorities and local community, underscore the resilience and solidarity of the people during this tragic ordeal.
In conclusion, the ongoing search for Abhinash Sarkar serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the unwavering strength of familial love in times of crisis. The prayers and efforts of all involved are focused on bringing closure to this heartbreaking chapter for the Sarkar family and the community at large.
