BJP members and police fought in different areas of Bengal on 13th September as they marched in protest to the state secretariat. According to reports, the altercation injured several police officers and members of the saffron movement, including leaders Mina Devi Purohit and Swapan Dasgupta.
Suvendu Adhikari, the opposition leader in the Bengal Assembly, Locket Chatterjee, and senior leader Rahul Sinha were among those held during the march, which the saffron party organized to denounce the alleged corrupt actions of the TMC administration. When protesters attempted to bypass the barriers that had been set up at several locations throughout the city and its surrounding areas, the police deployed tear gas and water cannons to disperse them.
As the demonstrators were prevented from continuing forward, a police kiosk was damaged. Similar scenes of violent demonstrators fighting with the police were seen in Howrah, Kolkata’s Lalbazar, and the MG Road neighborhoods. A police car was set on fire in Lalbazar. No significant protestor injuries have been reported, according to a Kolkata Police officer, despite the fact that several police officers have been hurt.
The protests caused major disruptions to daily life in the city, putting the general public in great discomfort on the thoroughfares, many of which had descended into chaos. Sukanta Majumdar, the state president of the BJP, staged a sit-in in Howrah after the rally was called off. Sukanta asserted that the autocratic government of Mamata Banerjee does not support giving room to opposition parties.
BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh, who was in command of the demonstrators outside the Howrah Bridge, departed the area as his party’s members were being lathi-charged. Ghosh stated that they will continue to oppose this jungle raj. Days of the TMC are numbered, according to Saumitra Khan, the head of the BJP’s state youth wing and the BJP will undoubtedly respond to all the crimes against party members.
“BJP4Bengal karyakartas or hooligans?,” the TMC tweeted.” “Today’s BJP acts that brought shame upon the entire nation included destroying and damaging government property, attacking police officers, creating disorder throughout the state, and disrupting tranquility.” The party stated that they vehemently condemn such deplorable behavior. Speaking on behalf of the TMC, Kunal Ghosh claimed that the BJP was inciting unrest while dissembling.
