Israel is still on guard after a rocket struck a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, injuring two people

A tanker was hit by a “unknown projectile” as it entered the Strait of Hormuz, according to the British military. The incident occurred on Monday while the ship was sailing to port on its own power, injuring two crew members.

While Israel closes on Monday for Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish faith, the Israeli military is nonetheless on high alert. Iran’s decision to shut down a French language center in Tehran is being denounced by France.

A tanker was hit by a “unknown projectile” as it entered the Strait of Hormuz, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center (UKMTO). There were two crew members with minor injuries. According to the UKMTO on Monday, the ship is reportedly using its own power to proceed to its next port of call. There were no reports of adverse effects on the environment.

Since the US and Israel began the conflict on February 28, Tehran has claimed control of a large portion of the Strait of Hormuz. Approximately 20 million barrels, or a fifth of the world’s oil supply, flowed through Hormuz every day during times of peace.

Although there are still some tankers passing through the strait, the amount of transportation has significantly decreased. Even as the nation awoke to the quiet and deserted streets of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, which is regarded as the holiest day for the Jewish faith, Israel’s military remained vigilant.

On Monday, when the faithful made their way to Jerusalem’s Old City’s Western Wall, streetlights glowed yellow.

“For the next 25 hours, Israel is offline,” the foreign ministry said on X after sundown Sunday. But the military said it bolstered its frontline forces following the killing of an Israeli settler Sunday in the occupied West Bank. The Palestinian suspect was detained after a manhunt.

In protest at the closure of a French language center connected to the French Embassy in Tehran, France says it will call Iran’s ambassador. In a statement released late on Sunday, the French Foreign Ministry stated that Paris will “take appropriate actions in response” without providing any details. Additionally, it’s unclear when the Iranian ambassador will be called.

The ministry connected the “unjustifiable and reprehensible” closure of the language center to an attack on two French Embassy employees in July and described it as a fresh assault on France’s cultural presence in Iran.
