Allegations have emerged against a private company connected to Kolkata-based businessman Sujay Krishna Bhadra, a key figure in the ongoing school jobs scam investigation. The company has filed a police complaint, asserting that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) downloaded 16 files from a computer during a recent search at its premises. The company claims that the ED did not obtain proper “permission” to access this data, as reported by the police.
The controversy unfolded following the ED’s search of three locations in Kolkata linked to Bhadra’s company, Leaps and Bounds Private Limited, earlier in the week. The probe agency subsequently issued a statement, revealing that it had uncovered “various incriminating documents and digital evidence” during the search. Notably, the statement also disclosed that Trinamool Congress (TMC) General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee held the position of Chief Executive Officer in the company. The ED further accused the company of engaging in questionable transactions involving crores of rupees and identified Bhadra as its Chief Operating Officer.
In response to the allegations, an accountant of the company, Chandan Mukherjee, lodged a complaint with the Kolkata Cyber Crime Police Station on 25thAugus. According to Mukherjee’s complaint, the ED downloaded 16 “Excel files” from a computer located at one of the company’s premises during the search operation. However, the company contends that these files did not pertain to Leaps and Bounds Pvt Ltd, but rather to an unrelated entity. At present, the true ownership of these files remains unclear.
A senior official from the Kolkata Police affirmed the receipt of the complaint, acknowledging the allegations made by the private firm. The official stated, “The complainant has alleged that the files did not belong to Leaps and Bounds Pvt Ltd but to some other entity. However, it is not clear at this juncture to whom the files belong.”
The development underscores the complex nature of the ongoing investigation into the school jobs scam and its associated individuals. With accusations of unauthorized data download and contested ownership of the accessed files, the case continues to raise questions about the methods and transparency of the enforcement agencies involved.
