The Election Commission of India has directed the Chief Secretary of West Bengal to immediately transfer an official posted in South 24 Parganas district amid the ongoing Assembly election process.
In an official communication, the Commission stated that Sourav Hazra, Joint Block Development Officer (Jt. BDO) of Falta Development Block—who has also been notified as Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) for 144-Falta Assembly Constituency—is to be transferred out of the block.
He has been reassigned to Purulia headquarters in the same capacity.
The Commission further directed that Ramya Bhattacharya, currently serving as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the rank of Jt. BDO, be posted as his replacement in Falta.
The move comes as part of the Commission’s efforts to ensure neutrality and maintain the integrity of the electoral process during the ongoing West Bengal Assembly Election 2026.
