Rahul Gandhi’s suitcase was inspected by poll officials on Saturday at Dhamangaon Railway in the Amravati district of Maharashtra. He came to speak at a public gathering for the assembly elections on November 20.
After Gandhi’s helicopter touched down at the helipad in Dhamangaon Railway, one of the eight assembly constituencies in the Amravati district, his bag was examined. Speaking to reporters, Yashomati Thakur, a former state minister and Congress MLA for Teosa, questioned the poll officials’ actions and inquired as to why Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s bags had not been checked.
Following Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray’s experience with it in Yavatmal, the poll authorities’ practice of scrutinizing politicians’ bags in order to implement the model code of conduct gained prominence during the state’s election campaign.
In addition to filming the process, Thackeray chastised the poll officials for failing to inspect the bags of Modi, Shah, Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Videos that later went viral, however, showed poll officials inspecting the bags of Shah, Shinde, Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar, and others.
