31-year-old Influencer Dies After ‘Fox Eyes’ Surgery; Experts Share Key Precautions Before Cosmetic Procedures

A tragic incident has drawn attention to the growing risks associated with cosmetic enhancement surgeries. A 31-year-old Brazilian fashion influencer, Adair Mendes Dutra Junior, died following complications from a “fox eyes” procedure — a surgery designed to lift and elongate the eyes for an almond-like shape. According to reports, Dutra developed a severe facial infection shortly after the surgery, which led to breathing difficulties and ultimately proved fatal.

In light of the incident, plastic surgeon Dr. Kiranmayi Atla shared vital safety guidelines to help individuals considering cosmetic surgery minimize potential health risks. She emphasized the importance of thorough preoperative preparation, maintaining proper hygiene, and following all medical instructions to ensure safe outcomes.

Dr. Atla advised that before undergoing any cosmetic surgery, patients must focus on maintaining good hydration, consuming an anti-inflammatory diet, and avoiding smoking. She also cautioned against taking herbal supplements or consuming green tea at least a week before the procedure, as these may interfere with blood clotting. Individuals with underlying conditions such as hypertension, thyroid disorders, or diabetes should ensure these are well managed before surgery. Additionally, patients on blood-thinning medications must discontinue them under medical supervision.

Post-surgery care is equally critical. The surgeon stressed that patients must adhere strictly to their doctor’s recovery plan, keep surgical areas clean and dry, and take prescribed antibiotics without skipping doses. Bathing should be avoided until permitted by the doctor, and patients should wear loose, breathable clothing to prevent irritation.
