Fire breaks out at Sabarmati bullet train station construction site in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad

News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 8th February 2025

A fire started at the under-construction Sabarmati bullet train station in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, during the early hours of Saturday. The fire department reported that the fire started at approximately 6:30 a.m. Thirteen fire tenders were deployed quickly, and the fire was contained. As per a statement released by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the organization overseeing the project, a fire was detected in the roof shuttering in one section of the construction site.

The preliminary evaluation indicated that welding sparks generated during temporary shuttering tasks were probably the source of the fire. “No injuries or fatalities have been reported.” “The origin of the fire has not been established, but at first glance, it seems that welding sparks from temporary shuttering activities could have caused it,” the statement mentioned.

NHSRCL officials are still overseeing the circumstances at the location. Sabarmati hosts India’s inaugural bullet train terminal, showcasing advanced design features. The project is being carried out with financial and technical support from the Japanese government. Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw posted a video showcasing its contemporary architecture on X in December 2023.

The Sabarmati station is included in the 508-km bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The initiative spans Gujarat (352 km) and Maharashtra (156 km), featuring 12 stations envisioned at Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand/Nadiad, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati.
