Shri Advani Ji has redrawn the political discourse in the country with his incredible and unique knack for gauging the pulse of our nation.
He understood the strong undercurrents of public opinion, and when he launched the Rath Yatra, it traveled throughout the country, irreversibly changing political thought. His challenge to adversaries who labeled him “communal” was to engage in an open dialogue and define secularism in the Indian context, referring to his critics as “pseudo-secular.”
He had a deep understanding of the ethos and culture of our country, making it easy for him to relate to all citizens. Advani Ji was the most well-read politician I have ever known. I recall numerous occasions during our long conversations when he would get up, pick up a book from his extensive home library, and open a relevant page to corroborate his statements.
He possessed a profound understanding of the legal framework of our democratic structure, being a well-studied politician of our constitution.
Advani Ji taught me the basics of such functioning on many occasions, like a patient teacher offering lessons to a young student. His debates in parliament were as engaging as his public political speeches, and he was meticulous in making a clear distinction between the two.
He had an unambiguous commitment to ideology and an uncanny ability to communicate with the masses. He never harbored any hatred towards any community; he embraced all his countrymen.
I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been blessed by him,to have received his abundant love and unstinted support at all times.
Atal Ji and Advani Ji were so close to each other that whenever I talked to one about any issue, he insisted I must share the same with the other.
They formed an admirable and unbeatable duo that ruled the hearts of karyakartaas and common people alike. Many instances, which are treasures in my life, provided immense strength due to his encouragement while being in his cabinet or a colleague in parliament.
He nurtured several young leaders who dominated the political scene. I owe a lot to him, and the memories of my long association with the Bhishmamah of the modern era will stay with me for a lifetime.”
