French Woman and Five Children Freed in Pakistan After Alleged Years of Isolation and Abuse

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/26th June 2026

Pakistani authorities have rescued a French woman and her five children from a house in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where they were allegedly confined and abused by the woman’s husband for more than a decade. The operation was carried out in the Bara region after police received information from one of the family members who managed to seek help.

Officials said the woman, identified as Sylvie Yasmina, and her children were discovered living in difficult conditions in a remote residence near the Afghan border. According to investigators, the family had remained largely isolated from society for years and had little contact with the outside world.

The rescue was reportedly triggered when one of Yasmina’s sons escaped from the property and informed authorities about the situation. Police then conducted a raid and recovered the woman and her children from the residence. Officers involved in the operation said the family appeared distressed and showed signs of long-term neglect.

During preliminary questioning, Yasmina alleged that her Pakistani husband subjected her and the children to years of physical and psychological abuse. She claimed that after relocating to Pakistan from Australia in 2014, the family was effectively cut off from normal social interactions and prevented from communicating freely with others. Authorities are investigating the allegations and gathering evidence related to the case.

Police also revealed that the children’s education had been severely disrupted. The two eldest children reportedly stopped attending school after moving to Pakistan, while the younger children, who were born in the country, had never been enrolled in any educational institution. Officials expressed concern about the impact that prolonged isolation may have had on their development and well-being.

Pakistani authorities have informed French diplomatic officials about the case. Yasmina has reportedly expressed a desire to return to France with her children. The incident has drawn attention from human rights groups, which have called for a thorough investigation and stronger safeguards for victims of domestic abuse and unlawful confinement.
