Gadar 2 Triumphs at the Box Office with Spectacular Opening Weekend Earnings
The fervour surrounding Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel’s latest film, Gadar 2, has reverberated through the box office as the film roars to unprecedented success. Helmed by director Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 serves as a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,” and introduces fresh faces including Utkarsh Sharma, Simrat Kaur, and Manish Wadhwa. In an impressive feat, Gadar 2 notched a position as the second-highest opener of Bollywood in 2023, trailing only behind Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan.”
During its debut day, Gadar 2 amassed a staggering collection of approximately Rs 39 crore, achieving an overall occupancy rate of 36.73 percent at Indian cinemas. The momentum surged on the second day, with earnings crossing the Rs 80 crore threshold through a collection of Rs 43 crore. Ultimately, Gadar 2’s cumulative earnings settled at an impressive Rs 83 crore. Early estimations heralded the film’s triumphant entry into the Rs 100 crore club on the third day, followed by an additional haul of Rs 52 crore on its debut 13th August, culminating in a grand total of Rs 135.18 crore.
In the face of fierce competition, Gadar 2 engaged in a head-to-head clash with Akshay Kumar’s “OMG 2” at the box office. While “OMG 2” secured a spot as the eighth highest opener in Bollywood this year, Gadar 2 managed to overshadow all competition, reigniting the iconic tale of Tara Singh and Sakina after a hiatus of 21 years. Ahead of its release, prominent trade analyst Taran Adarsh unveiled the film’s pre-release accomplishments, including a remarkable record-breaking streak in advance bookings. An astounding 2,74,000 tickets were snatched up through national chains such as PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis.
Steered by the on-screen chemistry of Sunny Deol portraying Tara Singh and Ameesha Patel as Sakina, Gadar 2 crafts a narrative that unfolds against the backdrop of the Crush India campaign in 1971. The story revolves around the life of the central couple as they navigate challenges and adversities. Tara and Sakina, along with their son Charanjeet, lead an unassuming existence. Yet, their world is upended when Tara mysteriously vanishes, leaving his family convinced he’s been ensnared in Pakistan. In response, Charanjeet, affectionately called Jeetey, makes the decision to journey to Pakistan and retrieve his missing father.
The plot unfolds in an intricate tapestry, with Jeetey discovering his own romantic connection amidst the backdrop of strained political relations. As Jeetey ventures into unfamiliar territory, his father embarks on a daring mission to rescue him from across the border. The heart of Gadar 2’s narrative lies in familial bonds, personal sacrifice, and the unbreakable spirit that surmounts even the most formidable challenges.
