Starring Vijay, the greatest Tamil opening of the year was achieved by The Greatest of All Time, also known as GOAT, which debuted in theaters on Thursday. It is expected that GOAT’s collections will increase over the weekend but so far, it doesn’t look like it will be able to overtake Leo. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, GOAT also stars Prashanth, Sneha, Mohan. Early projections of the film’s earnings in India are Rs 43 crore nett, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. Following its release in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, GOAT enjoyed a strong run of attendance in Chennai theaters. While GOAT has eclipsed the opening day receipts of Indian 2, which totaled Rs 25.6 crore, it has failed to beat the receipts of Vijay’s previous release, Leo
According to Sacnilk, the Tamil version of GOAT had an overall occupancy rate of 76.23 percent. The movie had Rs 1003 shows in Chennai and a remarkable 99 percent occupancy rate. 60 percent of the 1140 concerts in Bengaluru were reported to be occupied. Although the worldwide box office results for the movie have not yet been released, earlier reports suggested that it could make over Rs 100 crore on its first day of release. According to a Pinkvilla article, the GOAT’s gross domestic product is Rs 55 crore.
GOAT is said to be Vijay’s penultimate film as the star has previously hinted that he will move to politics after finishing his next film, Thalapathy 69, which is being made by director H Vinoth. It is yet to be seen if the excitement for Vijay’s second last film will actually translate into box office numbers. Vijay had two releases in 2023 – Leo and Varisu. While Leo was one of the biggest grossers of the year, Varisu did not have the same luck. The film clashed against Ajith’s Thunivu and made Rs 26.5 crore on opening day.
