Golden Jubilee Of North East Council; 6.8 Billion Dollars In Projects: PM’s Two-State Tour

On December 18, as the North East Council celebrates its Golden Jubilee, attention will be focused on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to Meghalaya and Tripura.

- PM Modi announced in a tweet on December 17 that he will be visiting the states and will take part in different programs targeted at boosting the growth trajectory of these states and the entire Northeast region.
- Eight states make up the North Eastern Council, the nodal organization for the region’s socioeconomic development: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. According to its official website, its constitution in 1971 represented the beginning of a new chapter of coordinated and planned endeavor and that organization has since played a significant role in putting in motion a new economic endeavor.
- Prior to PM Modi’s visit, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Shillong on December 17.
- On December 18 morning, the Prime Minister will be present for a significant North East Council gathering.
- The Prime Minister will officially launch or dedicate 6,800 crores worth of national projects.
- Meghalaya will receive 2,450 crores worth of these projects.
- According to a government announcement, PM Modi will launch the new campus of IIM Shillong at Umsawli and he will inaugurate Shillong – Diengpasoh Road.
- Among the highlights are six road projects related to the states of Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura.
- As part of the 4,350 crore worth of initiatives, the government’s ambitious Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Rural would also be launched in Tripura.
- His trip to the northeast coincides with the opposition’s attacks on the government over the most recent skirmish of Indian and Chinese forces along the hotly contested Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh.
