Google has announced a major expansion of its Gemini artificial intelligence platform across Android devices, introducing new features focused on smarter voice interaction, personalised widgets and advanced AI-driven task management. The update is part of Google’s broader effort to strengthen the integration of artificial intelligence within the Android ecosystem. The company said Gemini will now function as a more capable digital assistant that can handle complex tasks, provide contextual suggestions and interact more naturally with users across applications.
One of the key features introduced is enhanced AI dictation. The upgraded voice-to-text system is designed to deliver faster and more accurate transcription while better understanding conversational language, punctuation and context. Google said the feature aims to reduce typing effort and improve productivity for users sending messages, writing notes or creating documents.
The company also unveiled customizable AI widgets for Android home screens. These widgets will allow users to access Gemini-powered tools directly without opening separate apps. According to reports, users will be able to personalise widgets for functions such as reminders, schedule management, email summaries and quick recommendations.
Another major development is the introduction of “agentic” AI capabilities. Gemini is being designed to carry out multi-step actions across apps with minimal user input. The system may eventually assist with tasks such as booking appointments, organising travel plans and coordinating activities between different applications automatically.
Technology analysts described the update as part of the growing competition among major technology firms to bring generative AI directly into consumer devices. Companies including Microsoft, OpenAI and Apple are also expanding AI integration into their software platforms and hardware ecosystems.
Google stated that privacy and security protections would remain important during the rollout. Some AI processing is expected to occur directly on devices to improve speed and reduce reliance on cloud-based systems. The new Gemini features will gradually become available on supported Android devices through future software updates.
