Google Chat, a messaging service that is mostly accessible to all users through Gmail, has new Workspace upgrades that the company has unveiled. These features—which include the ability to send video messages—are meant to enhance, expedite, and enhance user-to-user interactions. The business also improves upon the voice messaging function that it released earlier this year on Google Chat by taking it a step further with extra features.
Google announced the addition of video chatting to Google Chat and provided some examples of its practical applications in a Workspace blog post. According to the company, members of the sales or customer service teams can use it to share video updates on new features or account modifications. It’s also supposed to be useful for disseminating updates to the entire organization or acting as a stand-in for a live meeting that attendees missed.This functionality works in direct messages (DMs), group DMs, and spaces, just like any other chat message. You can engage with it by quoting, responding, or reacting. Sent or received messages will be kept in the Shared tab’s Media section.
However, the video messaging capability has significant restrictions, the most notable of which being its availability. Google Chat does not support video messaging on ChromeOS, Linux, or Firefox, according to Google. They can only be transmitted online, but users can receive them on all platforms. Currently, this functionality is not accessible on mobile devices.
Google also announced the release of voice message transcription on Google Chat in a later blog post. Users can now see voice message transcriptions automatically in Chat on the web and mobile devices, following its debut. The new “View transcript” option that shows up underneath the voice message can be tapped to view it. Users also have the option to conceal transcripts.
