On August 13, 2024, Google unveiled its latest smartphone lineup at the ‘Made by Google’ event, introducing the Google Pixel 9 series. This new collection includes the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL, marking a significant upgrade over the previous Pixel 8 models. As tech enthusiasts and potential buyers compare the new Pixel 9 to its predecessor, it’s essential to examine how the two models differ in terms of pricing, specifications, and features to determine if the Pixel 9’s enhancements justify its higher cost.
The Google Pixel 9 is priced at ₹79,999, reflecting its premium status compared to the Pixel 8, which retails at ₹58,999. One of the notable upgrades in the Pixel 9 is its enhanced storage capacity and RAM. The Pixel 9 offers 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, whereas the Pixel 8 is equipped with 8GB of RAM and provides storage options of 128GB or 256GB. This increase in RAM and storage in the Pixel 9 supports better multitasking and more extensive data storage.
In terms of battery performance, the Pixel 9 features a larger 4,700 mAh battery compared to the 4,485 mAh battery of the Pixel 8. Both models are equipped with Google’s Titan M2 security coprocessor, but the Pixel 9 benefits from the more advanced Google Tensor G4 chip. This newer processor promises improved performance and efficiency over the Tensor G3 chip found in the Pixel 8.
The display on the Pixel 9 also sees an upgrade. It boasts a 6.3-inch OLED Actua screen, slightly larger than the 6.2-inch display on the Pixel 8. Both models use OLED Actua technology, which ensures vivid colors and deep blacks. However, the Pixel 9’s display reaches a peak brightness of up to 2,700 nits, significantly higher than the 2,000 nits offered by the Pixel 8. This enhancement allows for better visibility in bright environments.
Camera capabilities are another area of improvement. The Pixel 9 features a 50 MP main camera and a 48 MP ultrawide camera, compared to the Pixel 8’s 50 MP main camera and 12 MP ultrawide camera with autofocus. The upgraded ultrawide camera on the Pixel 9 offers greater flexibility for capturing expansive scenes and enhanced photo quality.
Battery life is another strong point for the Pixel 9. Under its Extreme Battery Saver mode, the Pixel 9 can last up to 100 hours, while the Pixel 8 offers up to 72 hours in the same mode. This extended battery life is beneficial for users who require prolonged usage without frequent recharging.
The Pixel 9 will be available for pre-order in India starting August 14, 2024, through major retailers including Flipkart, Reliance Digital, and Croma. This is the first time these models will be available in India at launch, adding to the excitement surrounding their release.
In summary, while the Google Pixel 9 comes with a higher price tag, it offers several notable upgrades over the Pixel 8, including enhanced RAM, improved battery life, a more powerful processor, and better camera capabilities. These advancements provide a compelling case for the Pixel 9’s higher cost, particularly for those seeking the latest technology and improved performance in their smartphone.
