Hardik Pandya Ruled Out of MI vs DC Clash Due to Illness, Suryakumar Leads Side
News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 4th April 2026

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the team’s IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals after being declared unfit due to illness, the franchise confirmed ahead of the match.
Pandya’s absence came as a setback for Mumbai Indians, with the all-rounder playing a pivotal role both as captain and a key performer with bat and ball. At the toss, stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav informed that Pandya was unwell and the management decided not to risk his health, especially in the early stages of the tournament.
With Pandya unavailable, Suryakumar stepped in to lead the side for the crucial encounter. Mumbai Indians also made multiple changes to their playing XI, bringing in players such as Deepak Chahar, Corbin Bosch, and Mitchell Santner to strengthen the lineup. The reshuffle reflected both forced adjustments due to Pandya’s absence and tactical considerations for the match.
Team officials clarified that Pandya’s unavailability was not linked to any injury but was purely due to a temporary illness. The decision to rest him was taken as a precautionary measure, ensuring he recovers fully before returning to action.
Despite his absence, Mumbai Indians aimed to maintain balance in the squad, though Pandya’s leadership and all-round abilities were expected to be missed. The franchise remains optimistic about his quick recovery and anticipates his return in the upcoming matches as the tournament progresses.
