Popular Indian rapper Badshah is facing legal trouble after the Haryana State Commission for Women directed police to register a case against him over the controversy surrounding his Haryanvi track Tateeree. The action was ordered after the artist reportedly failed to respond to a notice issued by the commission regarding the song’s content.
The women’s panel had earlier summoned the singer to appear before it in Panipat to clarify concerns raised about the lyrics and visuals of the music video. According to the commission, several complaints alleged that the song contained objectionable language and portrayed women in a disrespectful manner. When the rapper did not appear before the panel within the given time frame, the commission recommended strict legal action.
Following the non-compliance, the commission’s chairperson directed authorities to file a First Information Report (FIR) against the rapper. Officials also suggested that police take steps to locate him and ensure his presence in the investigation. Reports indicate that the commission has even asked authorities to consider seizing the singer’s passport to prevent him from leaving the country while the case is being examined.
The controversy began soon after the release of the song, which sparked criticism from activists and social media users who argued that its lyrics and visuals were inappropriate. The backlash quickly grew, prompting the women’s commission to intervene and seek an explanation from the artist.
In response to the criticism, Badshah later issued a public apology and removed the track from online platforms. He expressed regret if the song had hurt public sentiments and stated that it was never intended to offend anyone.
Despite the apology, the matter has continued to draw attention, with authorities pursuing legal procedures. The episode has also reignited debate over creative freedom in the music industry and the responsibility of artists to ensure that their content does not promote offensive stereotypes or disrespect women.
