The latest Henley Passport Index rankings reveal that India’s passport holds the 82nd position, granting its holders visa-free access to 58 countries. This ranking, compiled using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), aligns India’s passport with those of Senegal and Tajikistan in terms of global mobility.
Singapore’s passport tops the list as the most powerful globally, offering visa-free entry to an impressive 195 countries. Following closely are the passports of France, Italy, Germany, and Spain, which, along with Japan, provide access to 192 countries. Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, South Korea, and Sweden secure the third spot with visa-free travel to 191 destinations.
The United Kingdom ranks fourth alongside New Zealand, Norway, Belgium, Denmark, and Switzerland, while Australia and Portugal share the fifth position. The United States has slipped to eighth place, now offering visa-free travel to 186 countries.
India’s passport, ranked 82nd, allows its citizens to visit 58 countries without needing a visa, including popular travel spots like Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. In contrast, neighboring Pakistan is placed at 100th, with its passport enabling access to 33 countries. Afghanistan sits at the bottom of the list, with its passport allowing entry to just 26 destinations.
The Henley Passport Index, updated in real-time, tracks global visa-free access across 227 countries and territories, using exclusive IATA data. Christian Kaelin, chair of Henley & Partners, commented on the expanding global mobility gap. He noted that the average number of visa-free destinations available to travelers has nearly doubled from 58 in 2006 to 111 in 2024. However, the disparity between the top and bottom of the index has never been greater.
For the past 19 years, the Henley Passport Index has served as a key resource for understanding global passport power and travel freedoms. It remains a widely used interactive tool for displaying and ranking passports based on the ease of international travel.
