Hindu heritage roots are deeply entrenched in modern Cambodian Culture

Cambodian scholar  Chhunteng Hun highlighted importance of Hindu  cultural heritage in modern Cambodian culture while speaking at Literary Fourm of Sahitya Akademi on 14th March 2024 in Kolkata. 

Chhunteng Hun is Ananda Coomaraswamy Fellow of Sahitya Akademi . Mr.Hun delivered a talk on 

“Bhimapura and Battambang : The Evolution of Historical Toponym and the Mahabharata Myth”.

Hun mentioned Khemer script has its roots in scripts of languages of south India. Hun said  presence of Indian Hindu cultural images can be seen across Cambodia including in villages. 

Hun mentioned current Buddhist practices in Cambodian society have their roots in  Hindu faith and Hindu practices as Hinduism was practicing religion in Cambodian society for over thousand  years before transition to Buddhism .
