In a shocking breach of privacy, a staff member at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital was arrested for secretly recording veteran actor Dharmendra and members of the Deol family inside the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The incident occurred during the 89-year-old actor’s recent hospitalization, when he was admitted after his health deteriorated earlier this month.
A video that surfaced online showed Dharmendra lying unconscious on a hospital bed, surrounded by his family members, including sons Sunny and Bobby Deol. The footage captured emotional moments, with one family member heard praying for the actor’s recovery. The video quickly spread across social media, prompting outrage from fans and concerns about hospital confidentiality.
According to reports, the individual responsible for filming was identified as a hospital employee who had unauthorized access to the ICU. The employee was subsequently arrested following an internal inquiry and police complaint. The hospital administration has expressed regret over the incident and is said to be cooperating with authorities to ensure accountability.
The Deol family has requested privacy during this sensitive time. A statement issued by the family urged the public and media to refrain from sharing or speculating about Dharmendra’s health condition, emphasizing that such intrusions cause additional distress. The veteran actor was discharged from the hospital on November 12 and is currently recuperating at home.
The unauthorized recording has raised serious concerns over patient confidentiality and ethics in medical institutions. Breach Candy Hospital, known for treating several public figures, is expected to review its security and privacy protocols in light of the incident. Legal experts have noted that filming patients without consent constitutes a violation of the right to privacy under Indian law and could lead to criminal proceedings under the Information Technology Act and other provisions.
The arrest serves as a reminder of the urgent need for stricter enforcement of hospital privacy norms, especially for patients in critical care. While the investigation continues, the incident has sparked widespread debate on the exploitation of private moments in the age of viral media.
