The Chottanikkara police discovered a human skull and bones packaged and stored in a refrigerator at an unoccupied house on the outskirts of Kochi, Kerala. The officers searched the property after the area panchayat officials reported that it was being used as a base by anti-social groups.

During the search, officers opened the fridge, which is thought to have been in use when the property was occupied, and discovered the skull and bones. The bones were discovered bundled in three different coverings. The authorities believe the skull is many years old, but the exact age can only be verified by testing. There was no power in the residence, and the refrigerator lacked a compressor.

The mansion, located at Palace Square near Eruveli in Chottanikkara, about 4 kilometers north of the famed Chottanikkara Bhagavathy temple, has been disused and locked up for many years. The mansion, situated on a 14-acre property, is owned by an Ernakulam native and has been vacant for around 15-20 years.

The police concluded the inquest hearings and launched an inquiry into the event.
