Kharagpur, January 26: The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur celebrated the 77th Republic Day of India with solemn dignity and patriotic spirit on its campus, in the presence of Deans, faculty members, officers, staff, and students.

The celebrations began with the hoisting of the National Flag by Prof. Kamal Lochan Panigrahi, Acting Director and Dean (Administration), followed by the National Anthem. A ceremonial march past by the Security Staff and NCC cadets and the administration of the Republic Day Pledge marked the occasion.

The event held special significance as IIT Kharagpur is celebrating its Platinum Jubilee—75 years of nation-building, alongside the commemoration of 150 years of “Vande Mataram.” In his address, Prof. Panigrahi highlighted the enduring legacy of Vande Mataram as a symbol of India’s freedom movement, unity, and national spirit. He also underscored the Institute’s continued commitment to excellence in education, research, and innovation under the leadership of Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director, IIT Kharagpur.

The celebration was further enriched by patriotic and energetic performances by neighbouring schools, including Mongrace Day Care Centre, St. Agnes School, DAV Model School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, and Hijli High School, whose enthusiastic participation added colour and vibrancy to the occasion. The programme was ably compered by Shri Rajiv Rawat, Senior Hindi Officer, IIT Kharagpur.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Jitendra Mahakud, President, Technology Students’ Gymkhana, followed by the mass signing of Vande Mataram, symbolising unity and collective pride.
