IITs Unveil Low-Cost AI Tools for Early Disease Detection

In a major breakthrough for affordable healthcare innovation, researchers from leading Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have unveiled low-cost artificial intelligence (AI) tools capable of detecting cancer and kidney disease through simple oral swabs and breath tests.
The AI-driven systems analyse biomarkers and chemical signatures present in saliva and exhaled breath, enabling non-invasive, rapid screening. Experts say such technologies could significantly improve early diagnosis, particularly in rural and resource-constrained settings where access to advanced imaging and laboratory tests is limited.
In parallel, AI-powered electrocardiogram (ECG) platforms are being deployed to detect “silent” heart attacks—cardiac events that occur without typical symptoms. By identifying subtle electrical changes in heart rhythms, these systems can flag high-risk patients who might otherwise go undiagnosed.
Medical professionals believe these innovations could transform preventive healthcare in India, reducing diagnostic costs while enabling timely treatment and improved survival outcomes.
