IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall in Northeastern and Other Regions of India

A cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam, coupled with strong southwesterly and southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal, is set to influence the weather across northeastern India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts widespread light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim over the next five days. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim from June 6 to 10, and in Arunachal Pradesh from June 8 to 10, with Nagaland experiencing heavy rains on June 10.
Additionally, the IMD forecasts similar weather conditions, including light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms, in Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra and Kutch, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Karnataka over the same period. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, and Kerala and Mahe are expected to see these conditions from June 6 to 8. Konkan and Goa, along with Madhya Maharashtra, might experience isolated heavy rainfall from June 6 to 10, and Marathwada from June 6 to 8. Interior Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe are likely to receive heavy rains from June 6 to 9, while Coastal Karnataka might see heavy showers on June 8, 9, and 10. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal could face heavy rainfall on June 6 and 7, Coastal Andhra Pradesh on June 6, 9, and 10, Telangana on June 6 and 10, and Rayalaseema on June 6 and 7. Very heavy rainfall is anticipated in Konkan and Goa from June 8 to 10, and in Madhya Maharashtra and Coastal Karnataka on June 9 and 10.
A cyclonic circulation over northwest Madhya Pradesh, extending to West Bengal, is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds to Bihar, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal over the next two to three days. Similar weather is predicted for Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh for the next four to five days. Isolated hailstorms and squally winds are likely over West Madhya Pradesh from June 6 to 8, and strong winds are forecasted for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands over the next five days. Heavy rainfall at isolated places is anticipated in Odisha from June 6 to 8 and in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on June 9 and 10.
Furthermore, a Western Disturbance, characterized by a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and a trough in the middle tropospheric westerlies, is affecting the northwest plains. The IMD predicts scattered to fairly widespread light rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on June 6 and 7. Isolated hailstorms are likely in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on June 6. Scattered light rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan on June 6 and 7. Dust storms are anticipated in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh on June 6, and in Rajasthan on June 6 and 7. An isolated hailstorm is very likely over West Rajasthan on June 7.
