IMT Hyderabad Welcomes Prof. K M Baharul Islam as New Director

Hyderabad, India | 17 Feb 2025: The Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Hyderabad
is thrilled to welcome Prof. K M Baharul Islam as its new Director, effective toady. With a
career spanning over 30 years in communications, public policy, and governance, Prof. Islam
steps into this leadership role at the level of a Vice-Chancellor, bringing a wealth of experience
and a global perspective to the institute.

Prof. Islam is no stranger to academic and professional excellence. Currently serving as a
Professor of Communications and Chairperson of the Centre for Public Policy and
Government at IIM Kashipur, he has also been a Visiting Professor at the London School of
Economics (LSE) since 2021. His work has taken him across continents, with teaching stints
in Asia and Africa, and impactful assignments with the United Nations.

Known for his groundbreaking contributions to e-Government Strategy and National ICT
Policies, Prof. Islam has played a pivotal role in shaping digital transformation initiatives in
several African nations. His expertise has earned him prestigious accolades, including his
election as a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of the United Kingdom in 2020. Prof. Islam’s
academic journey is nothing short of extraordinary. Holding a D.Litt., two PhDs, MA, MBA,
LLM, and B.Ed., he has studied at some of the world’s most renowned institutions,
including Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Tezpur University, Strathclyde University (UK),
Harvard Business School, and the University of Bern, Switzerland. His post-doctoral studies
at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, further underscore his commitment to lifelong
learning.

As the new Director of IMT Hyderabad, Prof. Islam is poised to lead the institute into a new
era of innovation and global relevance. His vision emphasizes interdisciplinary learning,
international collaborations, and a focus on preparing students for the challenges of a rapidly
changing world.
