Inauguration of Food Truck Festival and Futsal Tournament

New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) is organizing a three-day ‘Food Truck Festival and Futsal Tournament’ from 3rd June – 5th June 2022 near Clock Tower in Action Area I, New Town, Kolkata. The festival will witness participation from the private sector and government-owned food truck businesses and citizens of New Town. The festival and tournament was inaugurated by the Honorable Minister of UD&MA, Firhad Hakim at 6:30 P.M. on 3rd June 2022 at the Clock Tower in New Town Kolkata.

Futsal is a five-a-side format of football and is gaining immense popularity among today’s youth.  A match is organized into 2 halves of 10 min each with a 5-minute break between them. The Futsal Tournament in New Town has received an overwhelming response from the citizens, total of 12 teams have registered for the event.

The event will also bear witness to the inauguration of two more community spaces created for encouraging pedestrian movement and social networks – (1) Community Zone (a project developed by West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO) for the benefit of delivery boys and for fostering citizen engagement – the zone is adorned with chess tables, street play zone, and workshop space)  below the flyover near the Clock Tower in New Town Kolkata and (2) Streets 4 People Zone (Street No 0106 and its surrounding area). Both these zones are pedestrian-friendly urban spaces encouraging the creation of vibrant neighborhoods.

To encourage the food truck business in New Town, NKDA has designated 2 zones for food trucks – 1) near Clock Tower in Action Area I, New Town and 2) near Mother’s Wax Museum, Action Area II. At both locations, food trucks will be operational every day from 6:30 PM to midnight, post 3rd June 2022.

On the occasion of World Bicycle Day on 3rd June 2022, a cycle rally, cycle training session, freecycle clinic, and road safety awareness program will be conducted in tandem with the above program. The cycle promotion and road safety awareness program will continue till 5th June 2022 through various cycling events in partnership with Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Cycle Network Grow, Switch ON Foundation, etc.
