Hockey India has unveiled an 18-member squad for the FIH Men’s Junior World Cup 2025, set to be held in Chennai and Madurai from November 28 to December 10. Defender and drag-flicker Rohit has been appointed captain, leading a young unit that blends experience with emerging talent.
One of the biggest setbacks for the team is the absence of star forward and drag-flick expert Araijeet Singh Hundal, who has been sidelined due to a shoulder injury. His exclusion leaves India without a key attacking option, particularly in penalty-corner situations.
The squad features two goalkeepers, Bikramjit Singh and Princedeep Singh, both known for their sharp reflexes and composure under pressure. The defensive lineup includes captain Rohit, Amir Ali, Anmol Ekka, Talem Priyo Barta, Sunil Palakshappa Bennur and Shardanand Tiwari, offering depth, physicality and tournament experience.
In midfield, India will rely on the versatility and control of Ankit Pal, Adrohit Ekka, Thounaojam Ingalemba Luwang, Manmeet Singh and Rosan Kujur. Their role in maintaining structure and feeding the forwards will be crucial.
The attacking unit features Sourabh Anand Kushwaha, Arshdeep Singh, Ajeet Yadav, Dilraj Singh and Gurjot Singh, the last of whom has already made his mark with the senior national team. Two alternates, Ravneet Singh and Rohit Kullu, will travel with the squad.
Placed in Pool B alongside Chile, Switzerland and Oman, India will aim for a strong start in front of home supporters. Coach PR Sreejesh said the selection was driven by technical skill, fitness and mental resilience, reflecting the team’s preparation through intensive training alongside the senior squad.
