India bought to a standstill with heavy rainfall

News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 16th September 2025

Large swaths of Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir have been devastated by this year’s monsoon. As these states experience new episodes of intense rainfall, the devastation from landslides and floods, which have already damaged infrastructure and lost lives, keeps becoming worse.

Heavy rains in August and early this month flooded low-lying regions in Delhi, the nation’s capital, and caused chaos. Viral footage of automobiles trapped and floating on waterlogged roadways showed how utterly inundated Gurugram was. Road closures and traffic restrictions were necessary because the region surrounding Red Fort was left in waist-deep water. The Yamuna River repeatedly crossed the danger level as a result of heavy rain, which exacerbated the situation and raised concerns about flooding throughout the city.

Mumbai is experiencing significant waterlogging as a result of ongoing rainfall. The monorail broke down last month as a result of flooding, and travelers were left trapped by flooded subways and arterial roadways. Over the course of the weekend, Hyderabad also had significant and furious rain; two individuals went missing in separate situations during the rainfall, and roads were completely flooded. A portion of the mountain was washed away by another landslide that happened yesterday in Gaygin District, West Sikkim (live visuals recorded). Luckily, there was no road blockage or infrastructure damage because the debris fell into a river.

Four cows and one human were killed in a second landslide in West Sikkim that same day. Four people had also lost their lives to landslides in the area earlier on Thursday.

Rescue efforts were conducted by SDRF, NDRF, and PWD teams using JCBs and other required equipment. Although no fatalities have been reported, the incident did sweep away some stores. Search efforts are still underway, though, as two people remain unaccounted for. Every agency connected to the IRS is actively involved, and the district administration is in alert mode. Under the direction of the DM, SDM Kumkum Joshi arrived at the location during the night.
