A Bollywood-inspired musical comedy, Persimmon of My Love, is slated for release in Russia on April 1, marking a notable collaboration between India and Russia. The project is being seen as a revival of cultural and cinematic partnerships that date back to the Soviet era, when Indian films enjoyed immense popularity among Russian audiences.
Directed by Marius Weisberg, the film blends elements of Bollywood storytelling with Russian cinematic style. It features well-known Russian actors Demis Karibidis and Mikhail Galustyan in lead roles. The narrative follows a classic Bollywood theme revolving around two brothers separated in childhood, who grow up on opposite sides of the law—one becoming a police officer and the other a criminal—before their lives intersect in dramatic fashion.
The film has been extensively shot in India, showcasing visually rich locations such as Udaipur along with sequences filmed in Mumbai and other regions. The production involved a large international crew, with hundreds of cast and crew members contributing to elaborate song-and-dance sequences designed to capture the essence of Bollywood cinema.
Music forms a central part of the film, with original Hindi tracks incorporated into the storyline. The soundtrack also includes a tribute to the iconic Bollywood song Jimmy Jimmy Aaja Aaja, highlighting the influence of Indian cinema on global audiences, particularly in Russia.
Producers describe the project as a unique fusion of two cinematic traditions, combining Bollywood’s vibrant musical format with Russian storytelling sensibilities. The film is expected to appeal to audiences in both countries and beyond, offering a blend of humour, drama, and emotion.
