India Suggests A Permanent Office To Coordinate Efforts To Combat Funding For Terrorism
On November 19, Amit Shah proposed creating a permanent “No Money For Terror” (NMFT) Secretariat in India, which would be expected to better coordinate international efforts to combat funding for terrorism.
Shah declared that the timing is right for a permanent secretariat when making this announcement at the NMFT conference. The proposal, according to sources in the security establishment, is still in its infancy.
While the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) was coordinating efforts to stop the financing of terrorism through sanctions and capacity building in many states, the official claimed that many aspects of the financing of terrorism as well as specific geographical areas needed more focused attention.
Delegates from 72 countries and 15 international organizations are present at the NMFT conference. Germany has agreed to host the conferences in 2024 and 2025, but the 2023 host has not yet been chosen.
