India Voices Deep Concern After US–Israel Strikes on Iran, Urges Immediate Restraint

India on Saturday expressed deep concern over the escalating situation in West Asia following coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel on targets in Iran. In its first official response, New Delhi called for restraint and stressed the urgent need to prevent further deterioration of security in the region.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said the developments were “deeply worrying” and underscored that all sides must avoid actions that could intensify hostilities. India emphasised that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective means to address differences and restore stability. The government also reiterated the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations in line with international law.

Officials said India is closely monitoring the evolving situation, particularly given the large Indian diaspora residing and working across West Asia. Indian missions in the region have been directed to remain in constant touch with the community and provide necessary assistance. Citizens have been advised to exercise caution and follow local advisories amid fears of possible retaliatory actions and further military escalation.

The strikes have heightened tensions across the Middle East, raising concerns of a broader regional confrontation. Several global powers have called for de-escalation, and New Delhi’s measured response reflects its longstanding position favouring peaceful resolution of conflicts. India maintains strong diplomatic and economic ties with countries across the region, making stability there a matter of strategic importance.

While refraining from directly criticising any party, India’s statement clearly signalled anxiety over the risk of spiralling violence and its potential impact on regional and global security.
