India has expressed serious concern over the rapidly unfolding situation in Venezuela following military strikes and reports related to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro. Describing the developments as deeply troubling, New Delhi said it is closely monitoring the situation and called on all sides to exercise restraint and prioritise dialogue to prevent further escalation.
In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs underlined India’s longstanding position that conflicts should be resolved through peaceful means. It stressed that the sovereignty of nations and international law must be respected, warning that the use of force could worsen instability not only within Venezuela but across the wider region. India reiterated that political disputes should be addressed through inclusive dialogue rather than military action.
The Indian government also emphasised its concern for the safety and well-being of the Venezuelan people, many of whom are already facing severe economic hardship and social challenges. Officials noted that any further violence could aggravate the humanitarian situation and disrupt essential services. India reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Venezuela during what it described as a critical and uncertain period.
Amid the escalating crisis, the Indian Embassy in Caracas has been placed on alert and is maintaining contact with members of the Indian community living in Venezuela. Authorities said necessary steps are being taken to ensure their safety, and the situation is being reviewed continuously in coordination with local officials.
The developments in Venezuela have triggered strong international reactions, with several countries voicing concern about the implications of military intervention and the potential for prolonged instability. India’s response aligns with its broader foreign policy approach of advocating diplomacy, dialogue, and respect for national sovereignty in resolving international disputes.
Observers note that the situation in Venezuela marks a significant turning point, with far-reaching consequences for regional politics and global relations. The uncertainty surrounding the leadership and the future political framework of the country has raised fears of further unrest, economic disruption, and displacement of civilians.
India has urged all stakeholders, including international actors, to work collectively towards de-escalation and a peaceful settlement that reflects the will of the Venezuelan people. It stressed that durable solutions can only emerge through negotiations that are inclusive and respectful of democratic principles.
