In a tragic incident that underscores the escalating tensions in Jammu and Kashmir, an Indian Army captain was killed in action during a fierce encounter with terrorists in the Doda district. The fallen officer, a captain from the 48 Rashtriya Rifles, was leading a search party during the ongoing Operation Assar when he succumbed to his injuries. The operation, which began on Tuesday, continues as the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police intensify their efforts to neutralize the threat posed by the terrorists in the region.
The encounter in the Assar area has turned into a prolonged battle, with security forces facing heavy resistance. Earlier in the day, the White Knight Corps confirmed that the search and combing operations were underway amidst intense gunfire. The captain’s sacrifice came as he bravely led his team in a dangerous and volatile environment, highlighting the ever-present risks faced by the security forces in their mission to safeguard the region.
As the operation continues, one officer has been reported injured while leading the search party. The security forces have successfully recovered war-like stores from the area, including an M4 American assault rifle, which indicates the level of sophistication and preparedness of the terrorists. In addition to the rifle, three rucksacks were also seized, providing further evidence of the terrorists’ intentions to carry out significant attacks.
The terrorists involved in the Doda encounter are believed to be part of a larger group whose sketches were recently released by the Kathua police. A reward of 5 lakh rupees has been announced for information leading to their capture, reflecting the high stakes involved in bringing these individuals to justice. The security forces have surrounded three terrorists in the dense forests of Assar, and the operation is expected to continue until the threat is fully neutralized.
Meanwhile, in a related operation, security forces in Kokernag are continuing their search for terrorists responsible for the recent killing of two Indian soldiers. The operation in the Gagarmunda forests of Kokernag has entered its fifth day, with the Army’s Para Commandos, the Police’s Special Operations Group, and paramilitary CRPF combing the challenging terrain in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The encounter, which took place in the mountainous region at an altitude of 10,000 feet, resulted in the deaths of two soldiers, Havaldar Deepak Kumar Yadav and Lance Naik Praveen Sharma, as well as one civilian.
The ongoing operations in both Doda and Kokernag highlight the persistent threat posed by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. As security forces continue their efforts to eliminate these threats, the sacrifices made by the soldiers on the frontlines serve as a stark reminder of the cost of maintaining peace and security in the region. The Indian Army remains on high alert, particularly with the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, ensuring that the sacrifices of their comrades are not in vain.
These encounters underscore the complexities and dangers inherent in counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir. The bravery and dedication of the Indian Army and other security forces continue to be a crucial element in the fight against terrorism, as they work tirelessly to protect the nation and its people from those who seek to undermine its security.
