An Indian Bengali Hindu origin Australian Barrister & Politician Varun Ghosh became first Indian and first Bengali Hindu Senator of Australian Parliament.
Varun Ghosh was appointed by the Parliament of Western Australia in a joint sitting on 1 February 2024 to represent in Senate as Senator of Western Australia in Australian Federal Parliament.
Varun Ghosh is representing the Australian Labor Party (ALP) & nominated by the ALP.
Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs & Leader of the Government in Senate , Senator Penny Wong welcoming Varun Ghosh wrote ” Welcome to Varun Ghosh, our newest Senator from Western Australia.
Senator Ghosh is the first ever Australian Senator sworn in on the Bhagavad Gita.
