The Indian Coast Guard saved two crew members after a US yacht experienced a total propulsion failure near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands late Thursday.

Officials reported that the pair was stuck 52 nautical miles southeast of Indira Point. In a post on X, the Coast Guard stated that ICG Ship Rajveer was deployed on July 10 after a distress signal was received from the US Consulate in Chennai concerning the yacht Sea Angel, which had one crew member from the US and one from Turkey.

When they arrived, the yacht was discovered with its sail torn away and its propeller caught in ropes. The Sea Angel was towed and securely delivered to Campbell Bay on July 11.

“The Indian Coast Guard rescued two US nationals stranded on a distressed US-flagged sailing vessel, Sea Angel, approximately 53 miles south of the Nicobar Islands. On receiving a distress message via the US Consulate in Chennai, ICG Ship Rajveer was deployed and responded despite rough sea conditions,” the ICG said in a statement.
