The 45-day celebration of the largest assembly on Earth began on Monday. It is among the biggest and most revered assemblies in Hinduism, taking place every twelve years. Both Indians and numerous international tourists are participating in Mahakumbh Mela 2025 to achieve spiritual purification by bathing at the Triveni Sangam— the holy meeting point of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the legendary Saraswati. Images from this religious occasion have flooded social media, including a short interview with a man of Indian descent who is now a citizen of Germany. In the video, he shares the reasons for his choice to travel to India with his German wife and their young son.
“Jitesh Prabhakar, originally from Mysore and now a German citizen along with his wife Saskia Knauf and a baby boy, Aditya arrive at #MahaKumbh2025,” “Jitesh says, ‘…It doesn’t matter if I live here (in India) or abroad – the connection should be there. I practice Yoga every day. One should be grounded and always try to travel towards inner self’,” the outlet added.
When asked how she feels about being in India to attend the Mahakumbh Mela , Jitesh’s wife says, “I am very excited. I always like coming here.”
On the initial day, more than one crore devotees immersed themselves in the holy Sangam. An unprecedented number of devotees are anticipated to take part in the inaugural ‘Amrit Snan’ on Tuesday to celebrate Makar Sankranti. This is among the most important Hindu festivals, celebrated throughout India with various regional customs. It marks the conclusion of winter and the beginning of a new farming season.
