Indian Ports Bill, 2025 To Be Introduced In Lok Sabha Today

Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, plans to present ‘The Indian Ports Bill, 2025’ in the Lok Sabha on Friday, as per the business agenda. The legislation seeks to unify port-related laws, encourage comprehensive port development, simplify business operations, and maximize the use of India’s coastline by creating and enhancing State Maritime Boards for efficient management of non-major ports.
Additionally, to create the Maritime State Development Council aimed at promoting organized growth in the port sector; facilitate the management of pollution, disasters, emergencies, security, safety, navigation, and data at ports; and guarantee adherence to India’s commitments under international agreements to which it is a signatory.
Union Minister Sonowal is expected to present ‘The Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, 2024’ for deliberation and approval. The legislation seeks to outline the duties, obligations, privileges, and protections related to carriers concerning the transportation of goods by sea and related issues.
As per the business list, the ministers of state for Parliamentary Affairs, Health and Family Welfare, Defence, and External Affairs will present documents for their respective ministries. Several statements from members of various standing committees on ‘Labour, Textiles, Skill Development’, ‘Water Resources’, ‘Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports’, and the committee on Industry will be submitted to the House today.
In the standing committee on Industry, Chandan Chauhan and Smita Uday Wagh will present the 328 report on the ‘Evaluation of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).’ For the committee on education, women, children, youth, and sports, Varsha Gaikwad and Sumathy Alias Tamizhachi Thangapandian will present the 365 report on Demands for Grants (2025-26) related to the Women and Child Development ministry.
For water resources standing committee, Narayandas Ahirwar will lay the Final Action Taken Statements of the committee. For labour, textiles and development committee, Basavaraj Bomai with G M Harish Balayogi will the Four Statements showing further Action Taken by the Government on the Observations/Recommendations of the Committee. The committee members will also present other reports on demands for Grants (2025-26) for various related ministries.
Union Minister Manohar Lal is set to make a statement regarding the withdrawal made from Contingency Fund of India to meet out expenditure in emergent case of new scheme named Deendayal Jan Aajeevika Yojana (Shehari).
