Infosys drop 195 trainees in third such layoffs in 2025, offers training

Infosys has terminated the employment of 195 trainees due to their inability to pass internal evaluations, as stated in emails from the country’s second largest IT services company.
This is the company’s third round of layoffs for trainees this year. In February, up to 320 trainees were dismissed on the same basis, and 240 were let go earlier this month.
In the second round, Infosys provided and financed training programs at NIIT and UpGrad. A total of 250 recruits participated in the training, while an additional 150 signed up for outplacement.
The reason for the latest round of layoff remains the same. “Further to assessment of the results of your final assessment attempt, please be informed that you have not met the qualifying criteria in the ‘generic foundation training programme’ despite the additional preparation time, doubt-clearing sessions, several mock assessments and three attempts,” said the information technology company’s email.
It is providing individuals impacted with a month’s salary, outplacement assistance, a 12-week training course for possible positions in the business process management sector, or a 24-week training program in basic information technology.
In FY25, Infosys employed 15,000 new trainees. The trainees affected were recruited in 2022 and those who joined in October 2024.
The job cuts occur as Infosys and the IT sector encounter an unpredictable macroeconomic landscape. The firm has projected a revenue increase for FY26 between 0-3 percent. It has been stated that it plans to bring on roughly 20,000 new staff for FY26.
