In a significant step toward deepening international sporting ties, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation across a wide spectrum of sports development initiatives.

The agreement, formalised during a collaborative meeting between top officials of both National Olympic Committees, seeks to enhance athlete exchange programs, high-performance training, sports science and medicine, and coaching development. The MoU also opens the door for joint camps in elite disciplines, shared best practices in sports administration, and knowledge partnerships ahead of major global sporting events.

Officials from both sides emphasised that the partnership is designed to create new opportunities for athletes, coaches, and support staff, enabling them to benefit from Italy’s long-standing expertise in Olympic sports and India’s rapidly growing sports ecosystem.

IOA representatives expressed confidence that this alliance will contribute to India’s emerging position as a global sports powerhouse, especially in disciplines where Italy has traditionally excelled, including shooting, fencing, athletics, and cycling. Meanwhile, CONI highlighted the potential to collaborate with India’s expanding infrastructure and talent pool, particularly in youth and grassroots sports.

Through this MoU, both organisations affirmed their commitment to fostering mutual growth, cultural exchange, and enhanced performance pathways, reinforcing the spirit of global cooperation that lies at the heart of the Olympic movement.

The partnership is expected to roll out its first set of joint programs in the upcoming season, marking a new chapter in India–Italy sports relations.
