News Mania Desk/Agnibeena Ghosh/20th July 2024

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 might witness significant shifts in team rosters, with several high-profile players potentially moving to new franchises. Following a challenging season for the Mumbai Indians (MI), major changes are rumored to be on the horizon. The team’s decision to replace Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as captain last year led to a turbulent season and criticism from Sharma’s supporters, who targeted Pandya during matches. Reports suggest that not only might Rohit Sharma part ways with MI before the 2025 season, but his close ally, Suryakumar Yadav, could also be on the move. According to recent speculation from Dainik Jagran, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) could target both Sharma and Yadav in the upcoming mega auction.

In another potential shake-up, Delhi Capitals (DC) are reportedly dissatisfied with Rishabh Pant’s performance, which could lead Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to pursue him in the auction. A source from CSK indicated that if MS Dhoni decides not to participate in IPL 2025, the franchise will seek out Pant, who is one of India’s premier wicketkeepers.

Additionally, KL Rahul, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), is rumored to be unhappy with the franchise. An altercation between Rahul and LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka during IPL 2024 reportedly escalated tensions. Consequently, Rahul might also be looking for a new team. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are said to be interested in acquiring Rahul and could offer him the captaincy. Faf du Plessis, who has led RCB for the past three seasons without securing a title, might be replaced as captain. This potential move indicates a strategic shift for RCB, which has previously focused on acquiring high-profile international players. The team could pivot towards strengthening its roster with more Indian talent, possibly leading to a significant overhaul in their strategy for IPL 2025.

As the mega auction approaches, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to announce details about the retention policy, leaving many questions unanswered about team compositions. The anticipated changes reflect a broader trend of teams reassessing their strategies and player line-ups to improve their chances in the upcoming season.

The shifting dynamics within the IPL teams suggest a season full of intrigue and excitement, with major players potentially changing sides and new leadership roles emerging. Fans and analysts will be watching closely as teams make their moves in the auction, aiming to build squads that can capture the coveted IPL trophy.
