On November 24 and 25, 2024, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction will take place as teams get ready to rebuild their complete squad for the 2025 season. Once every three years, the two-day mega auction will see some major players, including Jos Buttler, KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc, and Rishabh Pant, go under the hammer. A total of 577 players will be up for purchase across the 10 IPL teams participating in the auction.
In the massive auction, 577 players will be up for grabs. Of them, 210 will be from abroad and 367 will be from India. Jofra Archer of England, Saurabh Netravalkar of the United States, and Hardik Tamore of India were later added to the roster of 1,574 players who had initially registered for the auction. At the conclusion of the auction, each IPL team’s roster must contain a minimum of 18 players. IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Right to Match (RTM) card and budget
All IPL teams have a budget of Rs 120 crore, but after the retention phase, they have less money when they go to auction.
David Warner and Devdutt Padikkal have not been sold! And by acquiring Devon Conway back, CSK made their first acquisition. At the IPL 2025, top India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant set IPL history by becoming the most expensive player ever. He was acquired by the Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore. The record held by Shreyas Iyer, who was selected by the Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore, was broken by Pant. According to LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka, they had to “slightly” increase their bid for the top Indian players because they had set aside Rs 26 crore for Pant. Yuzvendra Chahal was selected by PBKS for Rs 18 crore, making him the most costly Indian spinner in IPL history.
Prior to this, Arshdeep Singh was the first player to be sold by PBKS at Rs 18 crore in the IPL 2025 Auction, and he was sold using an RTM card. KL Rahul disappointed, though, as he only paid the Delhi Capitals Rs 14 crore. The following items will be up for auction: Wicketkeepers, All-Rounders, Capped Bowlers, Marquee Sets, and Capped Batters. The first Uncapped Players set will be the last set of Day 1. Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah is hosting the two-day auction.
The exclusive Right to Match (RTM) provision is added to the bidding process for the IPL auction, giving former teams the opportunity to repurchase their former players at the auction’s sale price. But this year, there’s a twist. The winning team will have the opportunity to make one last bid and increase their sum if a team uses the RTM. The player will be successfully bought back by the player’s former organization if they decide to use the RTM in the last offer.
