Iran Unleashes Retaliatory Strikes Across Middle East Against US and Israeli Targets

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 28th February 2026

Hours after joint airstrikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, Tehran launched a sweeping retaliatory campaign that dramatically widened the conflict across the Middle East. Officials in Iran declared a “decisive” response, signalling a sharp escalation in hostilities that has reverberated beyond national borders.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) initiated multiple missile and drone strikes targeting military installations associated with both the U.S. and Israeli forces in the region. Explosions were reported at U.S. bases in Gulf states including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, where Iranian missiles and drones were detected, prompting heightened alert levels and defensive action by host nations.

Tehran’s leadership framed the operation as a legitimate response to what it described as unjustified aggression against its territory and sovereignty. A senior Iranian official declared that American and Israeli assets in the region had become legitimate targets and warned that “there are no red lines” in defending the homeland. State media also reported simultaneous strikes against targets deep within northern Israel, where sirens and air-defence alerts sounded as missiles were intercepted.

The retaliatory offensive included ballistic missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles and precision-guided weapons aimed at degrading the military capabilities of its adversaries. While full casualty figures remain unclear, the strikes underscored Tehran’s ability to project force across a broad geographic front in response to perceived transgressions.

Regional states hosting U.S. forces scrambled to activate air-defence systems as tensions spiked, and several Gulf airspaces were temporarily closed to commercial aviation due to safety concerns. The expansion of hostilities has raised fears that the conflict could destabilise a wider swath of the Middle East, drawing in additional nations and complicating longstanding diplomatic efforts.

Iran’s retaliation has been met with mixed global reactions, with some nations condemning the escalation and others urging urgent diplomatic engagement to prevent further loss of life. Meanwhile, ordinary civilians across the region find themselves caught in the increasing turbulence as geopolitical stakes rise and military exchanges show few signs of abating.
