Israel Reportedly Planning Large-Scale Ground Offensive in Southern Lebanon

Israel is reportedly preparing for a major ground invasion of southern Lebanon as part of its intensifying confrontation with the militant group Hezbollah. According to reports citing Israeli officials, the proposed operation aims to dismantle Hezbollah’s military infrastructure and push its fighters away from Israel’s northern border.
The plan, still under consideration by Israel’s political and military leadership, could involve a significant deployment of troops into southern Lebanon. If carried out, the offensive would mark Israel’s largest military campaign in the country since the 2006 Lebanon War. The operation is reportedly designed to eliminate Hezbollah’s missile launch sites, weapons depots and command facilities that Israeli authorities say pose a continuing threat to border communities.
Israeli forces have already increased their presence near the frontier between Lebanon and Israel, with multiple army divisions positioned along the border. Military preparations and limited cross-border operations have been observed in recent days, suggesting the armed forces are readying themselves for a broader ground assault if the government gives final approval.
The situation along the border has worsened following weeks of cross-border exchanges between Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters. The Iran-backed group has launched rockets and drones toward northern Israeli areas, while Israel has responded with repeated airstrikes targeting suspected militant positions across southern Lebanon.
Israeli officials argue that stronger military action may be necessary to remove what they describe as a persistent security threat. Hezbollah leaders, however, have vowed to continue their resistance and warned that the group is prepared for a prolonged conflict.
The escalation has already triggered a growing humanitarian crisis in southern Lebanon. Large numbers of civilians have reportedly fled towns and villages near the border as airstrikes and artillery fire intensify. Local authorities and aid organisations say hundreds of people have been killed and many more displaced since the fighting escalated.
Diplomatic efforts by international mediators to ease tensions have so far failed to produce a breakthrough. Analysts warn that if Israel proceeds with a large-scale ground invasion, the conflict could expand further and raise the risk of a wider regional confrontation in the Middle East.
