Jana Nayagan, Vijay’s last movie, suffered a blow on Wednesday when the Madras High Court postponed ruling on the producer’s appeal against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Despite this, the movie has already made ₹50 crore in pre-sales despite a probable postponement due to its limited release in India and abroad. With ₹50 crore in pre-sales worldwide and more than ₹32 crore on its first day alone, Jana Nayagan was predicted to have one of the largest launches in Tamil film history.
Sacnilk, a trade website, reports that Jana Nayagan has already sold 2,93,708 tickets for 2400 events in India. The movie made more money in Tamil than in Hindi, with ₹7.7 crore in pre-sales without reserved seats. By 6 PM on January 7, the movie had already earned ₹7.69 crore in Tamil and ₹22 lakh in Hindi. Only a few states, including Kerala and Karnataka, have started accepting reservations for the movie. Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and Vijay play the main parts in H Vinoth’s Jana Nayagan. KVN Productions, the film’s producer, complained to the HC over the CBFC’s delayed certification.
