Japan has unveiled an AI-driven human washing machine that can wash and dry a person’s body in just 15 minutes. Created by Science Co., the gadget called ‘Mirai Ningen Sentakuki’ offers a distinctive combination of cleanliness and relaxation, providing a spa-like experience with innovative water jets and tiny air bubbles.

As reported by Ashahi Shimbun, the AI in the system personalizes the cleaning procedure according to the user’s skin type and physical characteristics, while also displaying soothing visuals. The device operates by allowing the user to enter a clear pod that is partially filled with warm water. Rapid jets emit tiny bubbles that pop on impact, assisting in the elimination of dirt and impurities from the skin. The AI continually tracks vital signs and modifies the water’s temperature and pressure to maintain comfort during the procedure. It also evaluates the user’s emotional condition and displays calming visuals within the pod, intending to create a spa-like atmosphere.

Although this technology may seem new, it is based on a similar concept that Sanyo Electric first presented in the 1970s. The updated version, nonetheless, is scheduled to be presented at the 2025 Osaka Expo, where 1,000 attendees will have the opportunity to experience it. Science Co. has begun taking reservations for this advanced bathtub, which they intend to produce on a large scale, and a version for home use is also in development.

The ‘human washing machine’ presents both opportunity and possible challenges. The capacity to wash and dry in 15 minutes may appeal to people who prioritize efficiency, such as busy professionals or those with limited mobility. Users can benefit from a better experience if the washing procedure is tailored to their unique skin type and physical condition.

However, high-tech devices like this typically come with a steep price tag, which may limit their appeal to wealthy users or specialized sectors. Many individuals prefer the human touch of a traditional bath, and some may be hesitant to trust a totally automated machine for something as intimate as bathing. AI-powered technology can occasionally struggle with accuracy.
