Kalki 2898 AD Emerges as 2024’s Blockbuster: A Box Office Phenomenon Crossing 700 Crores In One Week

‘Kalki 2898 AD’, the Telugu epic featuring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, has taken the film industry by storm, raking in an astounding Rs 700 crore worldwide within its first week of release. Vyjayanthi Movies, the production house behind the film, proudly announced this milestone, emphasizing the film’s ongoing dream run at the box office.

According to reports, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has garnered Rs 150 crore from its Hindi version alone in the opening week, with a notable Rs 12 crore on its seventh day, pushing its total to approximately Rs 162 crore. The film’s domestic collections have crossed Rs 468 crore, with final figures still awaited.

Anticipation remains high for ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, expected to continue its stellar performance at the box office throughout the upcoming weekend. The film has captured widespread attention since its release, drawing inspiration from the Mahabharata and setting its narrative in a dystopian future. It revolves around a pregnant woman named Sumathi (Deepika Padukone), believed to carry the 10th avatar of Vishnu, and features Amitabh Bachchan as the immortal Ashwatthama tasked with protecting her child. Kamal Haasan plays the role of Supreme Yaskin, a ruthless antagonist determined to eliminate the unborn child, while Prabhas portrays Bhairava, a mercenary caught in the midst of these cosmic struggles.

‘Kalki 2898 AD’ made headlines early on with its massive opening day collections of Rs 191 crore worldwide, marking the third-highest opener in Indian cinema history. This impressive debut surpassed the global opening records set by films like ‘KGF 2’, ‘Salaar’, ‘Leo’, ‘Saaho’, and ‘Jawan’. While ‘RRR’ and ‘Baahubali 2’ still hold the top spots for highest Indian openers, with Rs 223 crore and Rs 217 crore respectively, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has firmly established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the industry.

Despite its monumental success, the film faced challenges, including an unfortunate online leak shortly after its release. This unauthorized distribution not only disrupted the film’s revenue potential but also underscored the persistent issue of piracy in the entertainment sector. Despite these setbacks, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ continues to captivate audiences worldwide, buoyed by its compelling storyline and stellar performances.

As fans and critics alike marvel at its box office triumphs, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of epic narratives and visionary filmmaking in contemporary cinema.
