Rishab Shetty’s highly anticipated Kantara Chapter 1 has continued its strong box office run, surpassing ₹80 crore in domestic collections by Friday evening. Trade trackers reported that the film earned ₹20.56 crore net in India on its second day, bringing the two-day total to ₹80.56 crore.
The film opened with a robust ₹60 crore net on Thursday, with the Kannada version contributing ₹18 crore and the Hindi-dubbed version ₹19 crore. Regional versions in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam also performed well, establishing the film as a pan-India success. International markets added approximately $2 million, pushing the worldwide gross to around ₹90 crore within the first two days.
Kantara Chapter 1 is now the second-highest-grossing Kannada film of the year, surpassing the earlier record set by Su From So at ₹92 crore net. Industry experts expect the film to overtake that mark imminently.
Directed by Rishab Shetty, the prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara is set a thousand years before the original story. Shetty reprises his role alongside Rukmini Vasanth, who plays Kanakavathi, continuing the epic tale that blends mythology, action, and drama.
The film’s success underscores the growing pan-India appeal of Kannada cinema, with strong performances across multiple language markets.
